Linda Howell DiMario Memo

To: Members of the LB Area Convention & Visitors Bureau
From: Linda Howell DiMario
Re: Crucial Vote on the Queensway Bay Development

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday, June 27 City Council will conduct the Public Hearing for the last vote required to facilitate the Queensway Bay Development. Although there have been a series of confirming votes for this development over the last two years, this vote on this night is the last hurdle to this long-awaited development. As you know, our Board of Directors has been on record supporting Queensway Bay for a long time. We have worked with the developer and the City Hall to craft a development that will meet the expectations of citizens and visitors alike. We are proud of our work and we are excided about the proposed development. The seven distinctive districts will return the city front to the waterfront with a grid of avenues offering interesting retail, entertainment for adults and children and features such as the new bridge over Shoreline Drive. We believe it will prove to be a powerful draw for millions to enjoy our fabulous waterfront while supporting the spectacular Aquarium of the Pacific and providing valuable linkage with the Convention Center.

There are two reasons for this memo:
1. To encourage you to attend this City Council meeting and join us in creating a high profile, visible support group for Queensway Bay. As you know there are a handful of enthusiastic opponents who have recently emerged who believe that after five years of public consultation and development work with the community, this development should be scrapped in favor of a waterfront park with a bird, otter and butterfly sanctuary. We have come too far and worked too hard to take anything for granted or allow any opposition or counter proposal to go unchallenged. Our appearance at City Hall will remind the voting Council members that we need them to stay the course and vote again for Queensway Bay.

2. To encourage you to call, email or write each of the nine Council members and advise them of your support for this vital link in our future. The phone numbers and emails are attached. (see my separate message.) Please join your Board Members in making a strong statement of support for Queensway Bay. We expect that this Public Hearing will be first on the agenda so we advise arriving at 5PM. Members of the LBACVB team will be available at the Chamber doors to direct you to the general seating area where we can create the best presence. Please call me with any questions, otherwise we will see you on Tuesday evening, June 27.
