Queen Mary during conversion
Black and white press picture of the Queen Mary's forward engineroom and boiler room #5 during conversion to a convention hall and museum in the late 1960s.

This photograph of the stairs and escalators being installed illustrates the cavernous enormity of the vessel's interiors.

Queen Mary Paintchips

Two paint chips collected in 1968 when 300 tons of paint were sandblasted from the Queen Mary's hull and superstructure. Some of these paintchips were filed at an angle to show 105 layers of paint and fashioned into collectible articles such as paperweights and cuff links. Among the layers of paint was a thin gray line indicating her days as a troop transport vessel during WWII.
