Leadership group forms for QM

The RMS Queen Mary Foundation has announced the formation of the RMSQMF Leadership Coalition.

The newly formed Leadership Coalition will consist of key community leaders and stakeholders experienced in historic preservation and developing and guiding nonprofit organizations.

The objectives of the new Leadership Coalition include policy development for archives and collections, fund development and grant writing, increasing volunteer memberships, and consistent and coherent preservation and restoration guidelines for the Queen Mary.

Local resident and active community member John W. Thomas has agreed to serve as the chairman.

Thomas will help develop the Leadership Coalition, selecting its members and establishing priorities.

"Like so many others, I have seen the Queen Mary as a community asset for many years, under-appreciated and utilized," he said. "It is truly a privilege to have the Queen Mary here in Long Beach and her future is bright if the new lease holder, the RMS Foundation, the community and the city can work together to ensure her full potential as the great maritime historical asset she is."
