Queen MaryColette Marie McLaughlin provides erroneous information regarding the Queen Mary (Letters, Oct. 3). The Queen Mary paid rent to the City of Long Beach in the amount of $1.3 million last fiscal year, and similar amounts in previous years. In addition, last year and in previous years, the Queen Mary generated over $800,000 in Transient Occupancy Tax (bed tax) that goes directly to the city. As the owner of the ship, the city did spend approximately $1.5 million that it received from the Port of Long Beach for capital improvements to the ship. This was restricted money generated by the port and transferred to the city in 1993.
